gray epoxy floor on the interior of a garage built by Heartland Garage Builders

At Heartland Garage Builders, we know Midwesterners are hard-working, and they expect their garages to be as well. That’s why every Heartland garage includes a durable and resilient epoxy coated floor.

How does epoxy work?

Contrary to some belief, epoxy isn’t paint, it’s actually a thermosetting resin applied as a coating. It’s a two-part coating (consisting of a resin part and a hardener part) mixed together to create a single component.

As the two parts are mixed, a chemical reaction produces closely cross-linked polymer structures which gives the compound its strength.

Epoxy creates a much thicker coating than paint, and is applied to the concrete of your garage floor.

What are the benefits?

In addition to being tough and durable, an epoxy floor is resilient to impacts, chipping, and chemical stains. This means your new garage floor will be tough enough to handle most anything you can throw (or drop) at it.

The coated floor can stand up to jacks and jack stands as well as rolling toolboxes, undercar mechanics’ creepers and more. If plan to use your new garage as a workshop, the coated floor can stand up to dropped tools or lumber.

Resistance to chemical stains means you can change your car’s oil and fluids without worrying about leaving unsightly marks on your garage floor.

A standard concrete garage floor is a constant dust producer. Normal traffic kicks up dusty concrete powder which can coat your vehicles, lawnmower, tools, and stored items.

However, the fact that epoxy is a topical sealer means it’s also anti-dusting, which helps keep your garage and possessions clean.

The high-gloss finish will help brighten your garage, making it a pleasant place to work.

Can epoxy stand up to Chicago winters?

Epoxy is naturally moisture-resistant, perfect for Chicago’s snowy climate. The floor is also easy to clean. Road salt and icy brines can be removed from the floor with ease.

By itself, an epoxy floor can be a slippery surface, which is why every Heartland Garage epoxy coated floor features a slip-resistant additive. This helps provide “grip” to your floor ensuring you excellent slip and fall protection in wet conditions.
